This being my first attempt to write for marimba, I asked my friend Logan, a percussionist, for advice on writing a solo marimba piece. I apparently didn't follow his advice very well, because the piece was virtually unplayable on one instrument. Using two marimbas instead of one lends itself to interesting antiphonal effects, whether it be in the context of a more minimalist style movement or a neoclassical fugue.
