Piano Sonata in C Major (2010)

I. Moderately, rubato - Faster - Tempo I
II. "Minuet" - Slow
III. "Scherzo (Joke)" - Fast
IV. "Finale" - Not too fast - A little more slowly and delicately - Tempo I - Slowly and freely

In this Sonata, each movement's opening idea falls apart in some way throughout the course of the movement. In the first movement, the opening lyrical melody is continually interrupted by a darker, more percussive theme. This second theme eventually "wins-out," infecting the opening melody with its darkness.

The second movement's melody, on the other hand, falls apart more of its own accord; rather than having a contrasting idea interrupt it, it simply loses its way.

Providing a bit of a respite after the first two movements, the third movement is a rhythmic toccata rife with with changing meters.

The last movement is a fugue--or at least begins as a fugue before spiraling out of control.
